Ganesh Chaturthi is a Hindu festival. It means the birth of the Hindu god Ganesha. We also call Ganesh Chaturthi as Vinayak Chaturthi or Ganeshotsav. In this festival people install Ganesh’s clay idols in homes and publicly sets sandals people chant of medic hymns and Hindu text and do prayers and arti and offer Prasad from daily prayers to Ganesha then distribute to the community.
Ganesha’s favourite sweet is modaka. The festival is of 10 days. After 10 days we take an idol in public with music and chanting then we do visarjan in water On the day of Ananta Chaturdashi. According to sources, 1,50000 statues are immersed annually in Mumbai only. Then the idol gets dissolved in water and Ganesha is believed to return to his place.
We celebrate the festival of Ganesha as god of new beginning. Ganesha remove all the obstacle from life. The festival is celebrate specially in States of Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, goa, Tamil nadu. We observed Ganesh ji festival in Nepal as well.
CELEBRATION IN INDIA:
We celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi in home or in public by community group. On the same day, in Bihar Mithila region chaurchan festival is celebrated which is related to Ganesha. It date is decided by presence of Chaturthi tithi. It is held during bhadrapad madyabanaa purvabaddha. If the Chaturthi tithi begins in night and end next morning, then the next morning is considered as Ganesh Chaturthi.
Also the priest perform prana pratishtha to invite Ganesha. The festival begins with hymns from Ganapati athar vashirsa, rigveda, upanishads and the Ganesh stotra. In Maharashtra and Goa arti is performed together with friends and family.
In Chaturthi festival, seller create models of Ganesha by clay , we call it murti. We do Ganesha visarjan on the last day of festival. Every year people wait for this festival as it brings a lot of positive vibes. The devotees bring multi home a day before or on the same day. The murti is decorated with flowers , balloons and other items. People do mantras, bhajan, kirtan during the ganeshotsav. It also recognised by public. It is recognised by local people , neighbourhood and group of people.
Ganesh Idols
Funds are collected from members for the festival. We set the Ganesh idols in mandaps or sandals. Public start preparing for the festival months in advance. Making of multi start with worshipping of Ganesha. The pandals are decorated with flowers and lights people do some cultural activities on the occasion of Ganesha Chaturthi like dancing, singing, theatre and many more and there are some community activities as well such as blood donation, medical camp.
Other religion people also celebrate the festival. In Tamil nadu people also call the festival as pillayar Chaturthi. Moral is one of the most favourite sweet of Ganesha ji. A model is made from rice or hear flour stuffed with grated coconut dried fruit, jaggery and steamed or fried. Another popular dish is karanji it is like modak..
