Mother’s day: A legacy of love

Mother’s day signifies pure bond between a mom and child. In honoring the Mother’s day, google doodle team has created a special theme to celebrate. The Mother’s day celebration falls on May 12. Every year second Sunday of May month is celebrated as Mother’s day. This day embraces the immeasurable efforts of mothers and maternal bond between their child. Mother’s Day is also a day to understand the values of motherhood and celebrate its excellence. It is not only applicable to human beings but to all other lovely creatures all around the world.

What is the story behind Mother’s day?

Do you wonder why Mother’s day is celebrated in May of every year. Well, begins at early 20th century. During those times, the ancient Greek and Roman people used to honour mother goddesses. They named Rhea and Cybele through their rituals and traditions. These celebrations fall during springtime of the year. It signifies the importance of fertility and motherhood.

In 1907, Anna Jarvis, an American citizen had celebrated her mother on this day. Let us explain the whole background story clearly. Everybody use to think that Mother’s Day was dedicated to thank her mother for her efforts. But in actual, it was social movement to praise the mother for love and peace. Mrs Jarvis, Anna’s mother, who was a minister’s wife. She helped the sick and poor people through her contribution. She has undertaken many acts. Including inspecting the quality of food to avoid illnesses.

During the Civil War, the nation maintained its equality. Hence started an initiative named “Mother’s Friendship Day,”. Through which the soldiers and locals from northern and southern parts come together. Moreover, establish pure signs of friendship towards each other. Mrs. Jarvis worked so hard to maintain peace and prosperity to the nation. Out of 10 Children, she literally lost her eight children due to war and illness. Unlike today, those times were very hard for women. Because in olden days women were treated very inappropriate and cheap due to male domination.

Apart, from all these struggles, Jarvis has remained as a social icon for creating difference. In addition, women have pushed to create a better environment. Moreover, improved social security and child safety, strived for women to get their rights. And the speak out for themselves and abolish slavery. There is a strong bond between “motherhood” and “social justice.” After then, it was a time when women’s activities were becoming more progressive. After a long journey of fighting for her mother’s contribution for social justice, Anna eventually succeeded in her dream. That was of making Mother’s Day a public holiday in 1914. It nearly took her ten years to achieve it. In 1914, then – U.S. President Wilson made a formal statement. Every second Sunday in May, the day Anna’s mother died, commemorates as Mother’s Day. Hence, making it as a national holiday.

The time flies, the contribution of mothers towards peace has been fading out. Mother’s Day focuses on celebrating the maternity and dedicated as a day to express gratitude towards all mother.  This year, lets pray for peace. How is it celebrated around the globe?

Mother’s Day in the US and Canada falls on May 2nd. While Mexico celebrates “Día de las Madres” on May 10th. That features family gatherings, homemade gifts, and elaborate meals.

The UK and France celebrate Mother’s Day on the fourth Sunday of Lent and the last Sunday of May respectively. It is celebrated with traditional Christian traditions and family gatherings.

Wan Mae, a Thai Mother’s Day celebrated in August. It honors Queen Sirikit for her maternal compassion. Children celebrate it with traditionally wearing jasmine garlands to show respect and gratitude.

Of all the gifts, a loving mother is greatest gift. A mother can understand the child, even when words can’t help to express the feeling. Besides that, a mother can sense any kind of situation that a child is undergoing through. A mother can read your heart and is the only soul who will not judge you for your work. But instead, she will only shower you with all her love and affection.  A beautiful soul, who can take the place of all others, but whose place no one else can take.
