Except for November 27, the Share Market closed for thirteen weekdays because of different festivals and official holidays in 2023. Furthermore, Moving into December, the only day when the share markets shut down is December 25, which is Christmas Day.

On Monday, November 27, the Indian stock exchanges will close for Guru Nanak Jayanti. Throughout the day, they will suspend trading in various segments, including equity derivatives, SLB, currency derivatives, and interest rate derivatives. Additionally, on November 27, the Multi Commodity of India Limited (MCX) will close for morning trading. Normal trading on the NSE and BSE stock exchanges will resume on Tuesday, November 28.

Every day of the week sees trading in the equities segment. This excludes Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays declared by the Exchange in advance.

Stock Markets Closed Today for Guru Nanak Jayanti

In honor of Guru Nanak Jayanti, the Indian stock market is closed today, November 27. During the day, trading pauses in the equity, equity derivatives, and SLB segments. It also stops in the currency and interest rate derivatives segments.

Moreover, followers of Sikhism celebrate Guru Nanak Jayanti or Gurpurab. It is a significant celebration that pays tribute to the birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev.

Looking ahead, trading on the National Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange will resume tomorrow, Tuesday, November 28. Additionally, November has witnessed 13 market closures, excluding today, owing to various festivals and official holidays in 2023.

In the upcoming month, stock markets will shut down on Christmas Day, December 25. The last market closure for this month occurred on November 14 in observance of Diwali Balipratipada.

Share Market (BSE, NSE) Closed on 27 November

In November 2023, the share market will shut down for ten days, which includes four Saturdays and four Sundays. This closure is a regular part of the operation of the share market. The share market, which facilitates buying and selling stocks, is typically open every day except for weekends and special holidays.

On November 14, marking the first-weekday closure in November, NSE and BSE closed for Diwali Balipratipada. This was an earlier event in the month.

On November 27, 2023, the second-weekday closure of the month will impact equity, futures, options (F&O), and currency markets. Additionally, commodity markets will close for the first half of the day.

On November 28, 2023, funds withdrawn on November 27, 2023, will be processed, and the money will be available by 2:00 pm.

Additionally, on November 27, 2023, any trades or position closures in the derivatives segment. It includes F&O and Currency Derivatives. It will result in credits or profits. These can be withdrawn by the end of the day on November 28, 2023.

BSE and NSE Closed Today for Gurunanak Jayanti

In the previous session, Indian equity benchmarks declined, primarily influenced by technology and consumer goods stocks. The 30-share BSE Sensex dropped 48 points, closing at 65,970, a decrease of 0.07 percent. Simultaneously, the NSE Nifty index experienced a decline of 7 points, or 0.04 percent, ultimately concluding at 19,795.

On the positive side, mid and small-cap stocks performed well. The Nifty Midcap 100 increased by 0.06 percent, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 saw a 0.30 percent rise. The India VIX, a measure of fear, increased by 0.13% to a higher level of 11.33.

Among the NSE’s fifteen sectoral indices, five ended the day lower. Notably, Nifty Consumer Durables, FMCG, and IT Nifty all underperformed the index, falling by 0.47, 0.97, and 0.97 percent, respectively. Nifty Pharma increased by 0.87 percent, while Nifty Metal increased by 0.67 percent.

Stocks on the BSE experienced declines of up to 1.55 percent. This included HCL Tech, Wipro, TCS, Nestle India, Tech Mahindra, Tata Motors, Infosys, and IndusInd Bank.

Additionally, there were declines of as much as 6.57 percent. This affected CG Power, KPR Mill, Paytm, Manappuram Finance, Mahindra Finance, Indiabulls Real Estate, and Nippon Life India Asset Management.

On a positive note, there were gains of up to 20 percent. This benefited General Insurance Corporation of India, New India Assurance Company, Life Insurance Corporation of India, and Data Patterns (India). Out of the 3,814 stocks traded on the BSE that day, 1,948 ended lower. Additionally, 1,752 ended higher, with the remaining 114 stocks remaining unchanged.

The domestic bourses are expected to reopen on November 28.

December 2023 Share Market Holidays

As the year comes to an end, both share markets will close for a total of 11 days in December. This closure includes weekends and holidays. Additionally, on Monday, December 25, both BSE and NSE will have an extra closure.

December 25 marks Christmas, a global celebration honoring the birth of Jesus Christ. This yearly event holds religious and cultural significance for people worldwide.

December 2023 Holidays for MCX

On December 25 and for 11 days over the weekend, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will be closed. Both morning and evening sessions on December 25 are impacted. Trading will resume on December 26, according to MCXIndia.com. Morning hours for MCX are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and evening hours are 5 p.m. to 11:30/11:55 p.m.
